Interior

Given the sporting pedigree of the Dodge Charger, it may be surprising that it also offers one of the roomiest interiors of any full-size sedan. 40 inches of leg room in the rear seat is better than many larger vehicles, while 56 inches of hip room throughout means that you and your passengers will be quite comfortable in the supportive seats. The seats come wrapped in cloth, with a number of leather and Alcantara Suede editions available. Heated front and rear seats, along with heated and ventilated front seats, offer more comfort options.

Soft touch materials are used liberally throughout the interior, while matte metallic framing accents are used around the cabin to add highlights. Even the base model is well-equipped with conveniences, including dual-zone manual air conditioning, keyless ignition and entry, and cruise control. This list grows as you move up the trim levels, including remote start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a heated steering wheel with power tilt-and-telescoping, power-adjustable pedals, and driver memory functions.

Performance

Unique amongst large family cars, the Charger is rear-wheel drive standard, with available all wheel drive. A wide variety of engines are available, depending on just how crazy you want to get ? for the daily driver, the 3.6-liter V6 will suffice, turning out 300 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque. If you want to tear up the pavement, three different performance-centered engines are available. The famed HEMI engines come in 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter editions, with 370 horsepower and 485 horsepower respectively. If that isn?t enough, the incredible Hellcat sits at the top of the range, packed with a supercharged V8 that makes an astounding 707 horsepower, and can launch the Charger to 60 miles per hour in only 4.1 seconds. Beyond the power numbers, handling and steering depends on the package you go with. The basic Charger offers rapid steering response, with handling that provides a comfortable ride. The more performance-centered packages have stiffer suspension and crisper steering, at the sacrifice of everyday ride quality. Upgraded brakes can be added, while the ride can be lowered to move the center of gravity.

Safety

You may think of the new Charger as a performance vehicle, but as a large family sedan, it also needs to provide the best in safety features. It comes through in crash testing with superb performance, earning five stars from the NHTSA and the top rating of "Good" overall from the IIHS. Basic crash-avoidance features include a rearview camera and rear park assist, but there are plenty of advanced features on offer, such as blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning. If a collision occurs, you can feel secure knowing you are protected by front-seat side-impact, driver knee, and side curtain airbags.
